My Visit to Cambridge

Hi everyone, I would normally do an ‘September Monthly Reflection’, however this past week I have been on holiday in Cambridge, so I thought I would share what I did during my visit instead. My visit to Cambridge started after arriving on the outskirts and traveling on the bus into the city centre. We arrived at the bus station at the back of the main shopping centre, the Grand Arcade.

We took a walk through the shopping centre, which was very fancy and had many shops such as John Lewis, Apple, Hotel Chocolat and more. After having a mooch around the shopping centre we headed to the Whittard Tea shop, which I love so much, we bought some Chelsea breakfast tea and two tea steepers so we could try some other loose tea samples. The lady in the shop was so helpful and gave us a lot of advice when it comes to trying other teas and coffees.

We then headed down a side street and stumbled across The Cambridge Gift Shop, where I bought a postcard to send home, what can I say I’m a classic tourist! We also found The Department of Magical Gifts, which was amazing, I absolutely love Harry Potter so this definitely made my day!

We then explored the rest of the streets of Cambridge, walking past Kings’ College and the University of Cambridge itself. The architecture of the buildings show the age of the college and university, I’ve previously heard of how prestigious the university is and wanted to explore the surrounding city. Founded in 1209 , the University of Cambridge is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world’s fourth-oldest surviving university.

Once we had explored the University buildings, we headed for some food. It wasn’t difficult to find a restaurant that took our fancy as there are plenty of places to eat within the city that weren’t too busy. After some food, we walked around more of the city finding more beautiful buildings and churches, sadly we could not enter the buildings as the university term had already started.

With the weather taking a turn for the worst, we headed for a coffee to get out of the bad weather and rest our legs. By this point I was already on 10,000 steps according to my Fitbit, so once the rain had blown over we walked over Kings’ College Bridge, taking a walk past the punters and walking through one of the parks by the river.

I must warn you all there are a lot of people cycling around the city, which was brilliant to see but be careful when crossing the roads. I’d also advise getting the bus into the city centre as there aren’t many car parks, plus you’ll avoid any traffic.

Exploring Cambridge was lovely, despite the little bit of rain, I loved exploring the city’s beautiful buildings and the architecture of the University of Cambridge. Let me know in the comments if you’ve been to Cambridge and what you thought of it!
