The Worst Things About Blogging

After spending a couple of years of my life blogging I’ve come to learn a lot about it.
There’s so much I love about blogging, but I also find a few things to hate at times, for a while I found that I had a love-hate relationship with blogging.

Not been able to switch off
I find it really hard to switch off, not just from blogging but in general. Once I have an idea I have to jot it down there and then, otherwise I worry about forgetting it. A lot of the time I have to remind myself that it isn’t my full time job, but I often work on my blog when I’m home from my actual job and on weekends, so it’s difficult to give my brain a break. I’m so passionate about blogging that yes I love it and would spend all my time doing it if I could, but unfortunately I am human!

Hitting a creative slump
It happens to us all, writers or creators block is the worst thing that can happen at times. Especially when you’ve made the time to write or create content and then you have a lack of ideas and motivation. Sometimes it’s hard because you don’t always realise just how much work goes into blogging, it can be a long process so it is unsurprising that creative slumps happen!

Finding the right balance
It’s hard to find a balance where I don’t spend every spare second working on my blog. And in a previous blog I spoke about how to balance my full-time job and blogging, yes it is difficult but it’s manageable. It’s when you start seeing the numbers go up on views, comments and likes, that’s when you realise how good it makes you feel.

Scheduling everything
Whether it be tweets or blog posts I used to absolutely hate scheduling. I never used to find it useful to be honest, but now I’ve got the hang of scheduling I use it a lot because i have a job as well as being a blogger. Scheduling make my life ten times easier, especially when it comes to twitter and WordPress. At times it can be time consuming, but the benefits now out-weigh the negativity.

Technologically-Related Issues
Technology is my worst enemy at times, you’d have thought at the age of 24 I would be exceptionally tech-savvy. Nope, that is not the case at all. And then WordPress brought out the new block editor and I had to remaster the whole process of blogging on WordPress again!
Technologically-related issues are the worst, 21st century problems I know!

I truly do love blogging despite my negativity, but I wanted to share this because I have had many issues with blogging. I can’t ever imagine not having a blog, it’s now like my left arm, in an ironic way I live for people reading my new posts and getting involved in the comments.

What do you dislike about blogging? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Yea, people usually don’t talk about it. But you usually are always “in the game”, your brain is always creating ideas, thinking, writing them down. There is no “turning off” here. But you wouldn’t do it if you wouldn’t love it 😉 This is why it’s not a job 🙂

  2. Agree with everything on that list. I can’t for the life of me “switch off” I am either constantly thinking about what to write or writing the whole post in my head and then when it comes to actually writing the post —my mind goes blank.

  3. Omg theae are all so true especially the frist one! I just started my blogging journey July of this year, and I feel as though the switch in my head never goes off! Always thinking, planning, prepping, creating. I try my best to maintain balance however so I do not end up being burned out.

  4. I’ve been very inconsistent in blogging and am trying to change that. I’m finding that it helps to post several drafts, and release one a week. My blog has always been somewhat eclectic, with words and pictures, so I’ll post an article, then several photos and release them as the week goes on. It’s always a challenge, though. Thanks for highlighting this side of blogging.

  5. I love this blog post. As a whole, I love blogging but there are certain things I just hate and no matter how much I try I just can’t enjoy them. Creative slumps and not being able to switch off really are the worst.

  6. I always tell people that I have a genuine love/hate relationship with technology – I love it when it’s working for me and helping me to get things done. On the other hand, I hate when it breaks or doesn’t work right and holds me back from getting things done hahaha!

  7. I loved reading this! Like you, for someone who blogs all the time, my tech knowledge is close to zero! I don’t know how I manage and run a blog! I love what you said about not being able to switch off, I can relate to that so much! I’m unable to switch off from it and I never take a break x

  8. Love your honesty. I’ve only been blogging since April 2020 but it’s been long enough I understand the juggling act required. I ran into my first bout of writers block in November, more so the distraction of the US election and news cycle that was keeping me from focusing on writing. I eventually got back on track but I was struggling there for a bit. You are inspiring, keep at it and thank you for sharing!

  9. Blogging always sounds like a good idea but it takes a lot of work to be successful at it. I think the most overlooked aspect is collaboration. It’s one thing to write content it’s another thing to get people interested in it.

  10. Oh my goodness yes! What balance? I struggle so much with this because it’s either you do it properly or you don’t. And it can be so time consuming! Especially when you get a brilliant idea in the middle of the night 😅

  11. Not being able to switch off is literally the worst!! As a full time college student trying to maintain a part time job alongside a blog, it’s so hard!! My brain hurts very often. If only time slowed down or something I don’t know.

Btw, I love your blog. You’re so relatable and I’m just scrolling and reading now.
