What I Love About Christmas? With a 2020 twist

Christmas is my favourite holiday for many reasons, spending time with family, Christmas Trees and spreading joy. This year I have been looking forward to it for a looooong time now.

Christmas is almost two weeks away and I have been thinking a lot about the things I love about Christmas, with a 2020 twist this year.

Christmas Films – I have been known to have watched a Christmas film or two or three way before Christmas. I can’t help it, once it gets to November I start watching my favourite Christmas Films. This year we’ve been spending a lot of time at home, so my Christmas with a 2020 twist has meant watching lots and lots of Christmas films, more than normal! Here’s my favourites:

  • White Christmas (1954)
  • The Holiday (2006)
  • Elf (2003)
  • Arthur Christmas (2011)
  • Home Alone 2 (1992)

Buying gifts for my loved ones – If anyone tries to convince you that ‘retail therapy’ does not work ,they are dead wrong. Shopping for friends and family during the festive season, is extremely exciting. This year has been mainly online shopping but I’ve managed to shop at independent shops which has brought joy to me so I hope it brings joy to my friends and family. I get so excited that I can barely keep gifts a secret, I have to tell someone what I’ve bought for other people.

Wrapping Gifts – There is something about putting together a gift. Wrapping it up and putting a pretty bow on top is so pleasing. This year all my gifts are fully wrapped, and while I’ve had the extra time I’ve put so much effort into each one. I spent one evening wrapping all my gifts with a couple of glasses of wine and a good Christmas Film.

Christmas Trees and decorations – Christmas Trees, Fairy Lights and Pretty Decorations give me a feeling of warmth and happiness. When these are up, everyone knows that Christmas is near, and this is enough to brighten even the most gloomiest of moods. Especially this year, we need less gloominess and more happiness. At work we have had our Christmas tree up since November, which brightens my mood every day I’m in the office.

This year we have had a not so great year, lets hope our 2020 Christmas will be better! Let me know what your favourite things about Christmas are!

  2. It’s lovely to see such positivity during such a year! I think everyone is very excited about Christmas, as we’ve witnessed many putting up Christmas trees early in 2020. I love decorating Christmas trees, and if I had a big enough house, I would have 10 trees! LOL As far as movies go, I’ve saved many movies on DVR this year, but I never heard of Arthur Christmas (we don’t have kids), so I’ll have to check that out.

  4. We always put on White Christmas after we finish opening presents. One of my all time favorite movies!

Decorations and christmas music is what I love most about the holidays. It really just gets the festive mood going and it’s hard not to be cheered up by a christmas tree or a neighborhood street fully decked out.

  5. I love how overall merry the feeling is of people around this time of the year. I also like watching Christmas films and listening to Christmas songs. Home Alone 1 and 2 are definitely Christmas movie staples.

We also have the puto bumbong (purple rice cake) sold during this season which I love to eat!

  6. I’m not a big fan of wrapping gifts, but I love everything else about Christmas. Decorating the tree, picking out the perfect gifts and watching Christmas movies! I love it all! Thanks for sharing what you love about Christmas!

  7. I love sitting down with a glass of wine and wrapping gifts. Our pets often give me a ‘helping hand’ too which means plenty of laughter involved. This year isn’t going to be the same, but we still plan on dropping off and mailing gifts so that we can see people opening them via video call. It’s better than nothing, all things considered. Right?
