Tour Of Britain Stage 5

Yesterday saw the return of the Tour of Britain to the north-west! Riders headed from Alderley Park in Alderley edge all the way through the Cheshire countryside to finish on Sankey Street in Warrington.

I was able to experience the start at Alderley Park with thousands of people turned up to see the riders set out on what looked to be a beautifully sunny day! With the favourites featuring Wout Van Aert, Julian Alaphilippe and the young Brit Ethan Hayter all lining up to battle the title out once again!

Breakaway went ahead and stayed out for most of the day, and were only caught by the peloton at around 3K. A crash happened on the last corner of the race meaning the lead out trains for the sprint were compromised!

Wout Van Aert was caught up in the crash meaning Ethan Hayter could take the leaders jersey again and put 8” into his rival.

With the Wolfpack on his tail, Hayter took what should have been an easy sprint stage! He beat the Manx missile, Mark Cavendish to the line as well as his team mate Julian Alaphilippe.

Stage 5 brought an amazing finish in Warrington and the tour finally coming back to the north-west. On Stage six they start in Carlisle and head to Gateshead right the way across the country hitting three category one climbs!

Stay Tuned for more updates on the stage six Tour of Britain!
