We have all heard the phrase “love yourself first” throughout life, but what does it mean and how can we actually love ourselves first.
You may have also heard that you can’t be loved by others until you love yourself… which I’m more than positive isn’t always true. What you might be missing is the solid advice of how you can achieve the state of loving yourself. I’m not talking about glitter bath bombs and Friday night face masks loving yourself goes back to the basics.
Move often
Being a couch potato, watching too much TV, or sitting all day in front of a computer will stop the energy within our bodies to shifting around. This means that our creative, emotional, sexual energies will get trapped in our bodies. Try to move more often, whether that’s walking outside for a few minutes, or having a mini-dance party as a break from work, or going out and spending as long as you want in the gym…
Have a hobby
Vague, I know, but having something that fulfils you and makes you happy outside of the everyday bustle is needed. It can be a sport, writing, learning a new language or reading, anything that you do for yourself. This should be something you can do with out the need of someone else to do it with you. People can join in by all means but its something that you can enjoy on your own and relax.
Start a Journal
Writing down your thoughts and feelings, allows you to go back at a later date and see how you coped with certain situations. You can take ten minutes every day, every week or whenever you feel like you need to write thoughts down in your journal. It’s a very positive way to get rid of negative feelings and overcome experiences which help you focus on the good rather than the bad.

Give Yourself A Break
Nobody is perfect, sometimes we can be too hard on ourselves sometimes. It’s natural, but giving yourself a break from time to time is definitely needed, we’re all human at the end of the day. Certain things happen in life but you need to accept them, just try to not be too hard on yourself.
Catch more zzz
You should pay as much attention to your sleep routine as you do with your skincare or hair care. Your bedroom should be a sleep sanctuary so you brain and body can wind down at the end of the day enabling you to sleep better. You can swap the late night Insta-scrolling for some mindfulness techniques so you can dream the night away.
Loving yourself means that you want the best for yourself, whether this involves having hard conversations, challenging biases and most importantly be kind to yourself. Let me know what you think in the comments.
