Look After Your Skin This Winter

Hi Everyone, I hope you’re all okay! I know it’s been a difficult year and we’re only two months in. I haven’t done a blog post like this so I thought while the weather is still cold, skincare is still important.

Your skin can change and become dry in winter so it’s extremely important to make sure you look after it. I’ve always had issues with my skin, I have quite bad eczema, so dryness is common for me. However, winter is so much worse, the cold air makes my skin dryer than ever.

Here are some of the tips I’ve been told to try by doctors, skincare experts, dermatologists and friends. Most of these tips work, however I still have issues with my skin and my eczema.

Just a warning, I am not a skincare expert, these are just some tips that I have learned in the past.

SPF Daily

SPF is still so important to wear during the winter months, because UV rays are present at the same strength all year. Using a moisturiser with an SPF daily prevents your skin ageing and protects your skin from damage caused by the sun.

Heavier Moisturiser

Your skin can become drier in winter more than any other season, one way to stop this is by using a heavier moisturiser. Sometimes a heavier moisturiser can cause oily skin or more spots, but I’d still recommend using a heavier moisturiser. You could also use a moisturiser more frequently like three or four times a day.

Moisturise Your Body

This is something I never forget to do because I have awfully dry and itchy skin. By moisturising your body and your face you are combatting the drier skin in winter. Moisturising your hands with a hand cream or lotion is also important so I use one in the morning and at night to prevent dry hands!

Use lip balm

This is one of the things I pick up every time I go shopping. I honestly use one every hour, on the hour to keep my lips smooth and soft. Especially during the winter I find it essential to stop my lips from being dry and cracking.

Drink lots of water.
When it’s cold outside we often forget to drink enough water throughout the day. Indulging in warming winter teas such as green tea or natural ginger and lemon is a wonderful way to keep hydrated in winter. Herbal teas make you feel healthy, hydrated and cozy at the same time. It’s a win-win situation!

Exfoliate your skin.
It may be the last thing on your mind when you have dry, itchy skin. However, there are benefits to exfoliating your skin during winter, it take off the dry, dead skin cells, but it also helps you regenerate new ones. Your skin will thank you for using natural, exfoliating scrubs.

Throughout the year, and especially in winter, it’s important that we practice or maintain a good skincare routine to take the best care of our skin. These are my top suggestions, but you must do what works for you!

  1. Excellent tips! I switch to a facial oil in the winter to help keep my skin supple and moisturized. I remember being so shocked when I learned that even oily skin can benefit from facial oils – and it’s certainly proven to be true! I love the results!
